Sarai, later renamed Sarah, was born in 1940 BC.

She was the daughter of Terah but had a different mother than Abram. She was not the only one in her family who married a close relative. Nahor, her half-brother married his niece, Milcah.

Sarah's first-born and only child was Isaac, born in 1850 BC.

She was considered one of the fairest of women. Pharoah desired her for his harem as did also Abimelech.

While being purified to become Pharoah's wife God sent great plagues upon Pharoah's house.1

As the years went by Sarah's faith that God would make her the mother of a great nation as He had promised waned. It was Sarah who come up with the scheme to have Hagar bear her a child. Her plan was legally acceptable according to the laws of the day, but it was not what God had promised. Ishmael, Hagar's birthson was legally Sarah's son. But was not accepted by God as the son of promise.

Years later in 1851 BC God came to visit Abram on other business. While there He renewed his promise that Abram would have a child by Sarah and added that the child would be born within one year. One year later in 1850 BC Sarah gave birth to Isaac.

Sarah died in 1823 BC, she was buried in the cave of Machpelah which Abram purchased from the sons of Heth in Hebron.
